The situation

In 2015, Convoy was a private, pre-revenue startup operating quietly under the radar in Washington State. With twin goals of supporting business development and courting new investment, it needed greater credibility and awareness in the marketplace, and had no media experience to speak of.

What we did

BRC guided and managed all aspects of the company’s media strategy and execution, starting with its public launch in October 2015.

Results

  • October 2015 public launch covered by The Wall Street Journal, Seattle Times, TechCrunch, USA Today, Businessweek, Fortune, Forbes and GeekWire.
  • March 2016: $16M Series A led by Greylock Partners. The announcement achieved broad media exposure, most prominently the cover of The New York Times business section.
  • July 2017: $62M Series B, with participation from Bill Gates and Expedia founder Barry Diller, joining earlier investors including Jeff Bezos and Marc Benioff.
  • 2018: $185M Series C led by CapitalG, valuing the company at more than $1B.
  • Convoy’s integrated credibility campaign resulted in rapid platform adoption: 400,000+ drivers/trucks across 80,000 carrier companies.

The situation

In early 2016, Chewy.com was a Miami-based e-commerce company focused on pet food and related products, growing rapidly with roughly $900M in annual revenue, yet with a relatively low profile for its size. Projecting significant top-line growth and a major liquidity event within 18 months, Chewy wanted greater visibility and awareness within the investment community.

What we did

With no previous media experience, Chewy hired our team to guide media relations strategy and execution. Benjamin directed the national media relations campaign, which launched formally in October 2016.

Results

  • Headlines in national, financial and trade publications: The Wall Street Journal, Businessweek, Bloomberg Radio, Forbes, Fortune, Recode, Business Insider and the Miami Herald.
  • April 2017: following the campaign, Chewy announced its acquisition by PetSmart for $3.35B.
  • Two years later, PetSmart took the company public (NYSE: CHWY).

The situation

Fitch Ratings, part of the Fitch Group, is one of the “big three” global credit rating agencies. In 2017, its U.S. Corporate group needed support building a national thought leadership profile comparable to its much larger competitors. To support brand visibility and new business development, Fitch wanted greater credibility and awareness in the marketplace for its U.S. corporate research analysts.

What we did

Working with group heads and analysts in the healthcare, technology, energy, industrial and retail practice groups, our team prepared and executed a comprehensive media program, guiding and managing all aspects of the group’s media strategy and execution.

Results

  • Proactive media relations drove placements in strategically important national, financial and trade publications, including CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Bloomberg, Reuters, TheStreet and Becker’s Hospital Review, among many others.
  • In the years that followed, Fitch Ratings has seen its ratings market share grow to 15% and has established itself as a trusted agency partner.

The situation

In early 2015, Daimler Trucks North America was preparing to unveil Inspiration, its first heavy-duty semi-autonomous truck, a significant advance in vehicle automation. Daimler wanted a media event to match the breakthrough.

What we did

In partnership with Daimler, BRC planned an unveiling event in Las Vegas, culminating in Inspiration crossing the Hoover Dam without driver assistance. BRC handled all facets of the effort: organizing media day, staging the product reveal, preparing executive scripts, and scheduling interviews and ride-alongs.

Results

  • 1 billion global media impressions.
  • 300+ reporters in attendance.
  • Prominent print and television coverage in U.S. and international financial, consumer and trade outlets, including the Financial Times, CNBC, Good Morning America, The Wall Street Journal, Wired, Engadget, American Trucker and Fortune.
